CIRCLE Fiction Orbit - Extended call for projects
Updated: Jul 7
CIRCLE is extending the deadline to apply for CIRCLE Fiction Orbit, our new initiative for women - identifying fiction filmmakers. The new deadline is July 18th, 2023.
About CIRCLE Fiction Orbit
CIRCLE Fiction Orbit is an intensive one week workshop open to women-identifying directors and/or producers , who are developing their second or third fiction feature films.
Ideal candidates for CIRCLE Fiction Orbit are women-identifying directors making their second or third feature-length film. This film should be in development with a producer attached. Ideally, they have already directed a fiction feature length film, however, if they have directed a feature-length documentary that has premiered at an A-List festival or had wide international circulation, we would accept feature debuts. If the project is being produced by a woman, the director and producer are welcome to attend as a duo. CIRCLE Fiction Orbit is scheduled to take place from November 20 - 26 2023 in Montenegro. The workshop will take a comprehensive look at the development of the films, covering the personal, creative and business elements to help them reach their full potential. We are looking for 6-8 woman-identifying (second or third-time) directors with strong feature-film projects in development to apply.
CIRCLE fosters project development, but also strongly focuses on knowledge-sharing and building professional skills, by connecting participants of the programme with the rest of the film industry and giving them access to world-renowned mentors.
Directors can participate alone or together with the producer. Only projects with a producer attached are eligible. Both director and producer should have at least one feature film done.
Fee and Scholarship:
The participation fee (1600€ per person) covers mentorship, accommodation and meals, as well as a variety of offers by our partners.
CIRCLE may allocate up to two scholarships (covering 50% of the tuition fee) for participants from low capacity countries in need.
We look forward to reading your projects!

Since 2018, CIRCLE has supported more than 50 women-identifying directors and producers through our documentary workshop - CIRCLE Women Doc Accelerator. Films developed in the Accelerator framework have gone on to achieve great success, launching the careers of their authors and making a mark on the international festival circuit. Some notable examples include Twice Colonized by Lin Alluna (World premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2023, opening film for CPH:DOX and HotDocs 2023), The Eclipse by Nataša Urban (Main DOX:Award for Best International Feature Documentary at CPH:DOX 2022, Special Mention International Competition at DokuFest Prizren 2022, Makedox Onion Award For Best Film, nominated for European Film Award) and This Rain Will Never Stop by Alina Gorlova (IDFA First Appearance Award, 2020). Other CIRCLE droughts were shown at a wide range of festivals, including DokLeipzig, Festival dei Popoli, Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Sheffield Docs, Götteburg Film Festival, Nordisk Panorama, DocsLisboa, Sarajevo Film Festival and many others.
